For a Father's Day He'll Never Forget

Mention Father's Day and generally we all get a feeling of slight panic and blankness, as a lack of inspiration kicks in for what to get our Dads. And it's not as if we don't appreciate them! Years of acting as an unofficial bank, handyman, personal banker and general coach means that your Dad will have played a vital role in your life over the years - and often for very little thanks! After all, how many of us are a bit guilty of taking our Dads for granted in a way that we'd never do our Mums (we wouldn't get our tea if we did....) Dads aren't usually complainers either, so they go about their way without making a fuss about their slightly unimaginative corner shop or garage Father's Day presents - yet another novelty mug or dodgy cufflinks... Well no more! Make this the year that you treat your Dad to a Father's Day gift that he really won't forget!

Of course everyone is a little cash strapped at the moment and fears of the recession abound - however, presents aren't just about flashing the cash. Fathers Day is essentially about showing your dad how much you love him, so the greatest gift you can give is your time and some thought into a gift. If you are really feeling hard up, then why not make your Dad a great card and cook him a meal - or take him to the local for a pint and a good chat. Maybe as an added bonus you could even talk about what's going on in your Dad's world, rather than talking about your own, and then borrowing a twenty for the drinks as you may usually do!

However, if you'd like to treat your Dad to a nice gift this year, then make it a good one. Thankfully it's a far easier task than it used to be, with some fantastic Father's Day gifts available online. These have the special advantage of being quirky, unusual and generally the sort of thing you can't get locally without a bit of searching. Even better they are delivered to your door and you don't have to spend the Saturday before Fathers Day battling the crowds for a last minute purchase!

Father's Day Gifts To Suit His Hobbies

Rather than heading automatically for the generic Father's Day gifts on offer - think dodgy mug, lurid tie or six pack of beer - why not look to his hobbies and get something that links into them. That might be sports, his dog, DIY or maybe a spot of gardening. Spending time in the garden seems to be gaining real popularity at the moment and many men like to spend quality time relaxing (and escaping the family) in their sheds! So have some fun celebrating Dad's shed with some humourous gifts -again, all cost effective for the credit crunched - but showing real thought and time spent choosing them. A good option is the '101 things to do in a shed' book which celebrates everything about your Dad's outdoor sanctuary, and presents all kinds of funny tools, ideas, tasks and projects to 'keep him busy' outside. Or if vegetable growing is his thing - perhaps he has recently joined the new wave of allotment owners - then celebrate his trendy eco credentials with the witty 'violent veg' personalised calendar, featuring the crew of Violent Veg all in funny situations with little captions on to make you laugh. Each caption is personalised for your Dad in this exclusive calendar and it's bound to make everyone laugh, being unusual and very quirky! You can even put a personal Father's Day message on the front, so he'll always be reminded of your thoughtful gift, and it comes in A4 size - perfect perhaps for hanging in his shed when planning out the garden projects for the year ahead!

These are just a couple of ideas for gardening loving Dads, but they show how quirky and small gifts can make something really special for your Dad this Fathers Day Day. Have a browse online and see what the latest ideas are for Father's Day gifts - chances are they'll spark off some new ideas or show you new products you've never even come across before - there will be no excuse for the same old tired presents again! Whatever you do choose, try to be around for Dad on the day so he can enjoy it with you and enjoy the most precious gift of all - time and attention. You only get one Dad, so make the most of him this Father's Day! After all, chances are he'll repay the favour when your birthday approaches...!
