If having wires all over your teeth for months on end isn't enough, orthodontic braces are giant food traps. Most young adults who have braces fight to help keep food particles out of thier braces and to maintain clean breath. Its lots of work to keep teeth clean when you wear braces.

Braces are certainly food traps. You can't prevent this form happening. Once you eat any type of food, it becomes stuck in and around the orthodontic braces. If you ever can't brush right away, the food can sit there and it will cause some pretty stinky breath. So, how do you fight off bad breath when you wear or braces?

Clean your teeth every time you eat: After you have your orthodontic braces installed on your teeth, probably the first thing the orthodontist will tell you should be to be sure you brush when you eat. It isn't to help keep the shiny little tools he gave you sparkling for his sake, it's to keep your gum and teeth healthy and balanced. You can't prevent food particles getting stuck in there, but it is possible to try to clean them out. Follow your orthodontist's advice and be sure you do that every time.

Swish with water: When you simply cannot get to a toothbrush quick enough, consider swirling a good portion of water in your mouth and thenspit it out. This will help loosen those particles and help you keep your breath smelling fresher. Even if you can not brush your teeth after you meal, when you've got orthodontic braces, you should ensure that you are doing a great job of keeping them clean.

Use tools: Don't have a toothbrush handy? A toothpick works well to get the food particles out from around and in between the braces. You will just need to be careful. You can also utilize little brush the orthodontist gave you which looks kinda like a mini bottle brush. Those are developed for patients with braces and can help you brush around your appliances better than even just brushing.

Brush with a good toothpaste: You can also use a good toothpaste to help clean your braces. Ask your orthodontist which kind is the best. If your braces are causing you a great deal of pain, you should ask for toothpaste and mouthwash that's designed for sensitive teeth. Swishing your mouth out with lukewarm saltwater immediately after brushing is additionally a great idea. It can help to alleviate discomfort as well as help keep your breath from smelling. If you happen to use retainers or other appliances, clean those as well.

Follow the advice of your orthodontist and make sure to care for your teeth and braces correctly. This will help your teeth and gum stay healthy, but it can also go a long way in helping to prevent the smelly breath you can get with braces.
