Do you bear that annoying toothache with the hope that the pain killers you have taken will solve your dilemma? Do you avoid having regular dental checkups at all cost? Or maybe you prefer to give birth rather than having a tooth extracted? If you have answered yes to any of these questions you may be suffering from a condition called dental phobia.
Dental phobia is very common; it causes people to be very apprehensive about taking a trip to the dentist. In many cases, peoples' fear of the dentist causes them to put off treatment for many years, putting their oral health at risk.
Well, you can finally put your anxiety behind you and make that long overdue trip to the dentist thanks to "Surrey's Sedation Dentists". By visiting Surrey you will be able to have a pleasant and relaxing experience at the dentist with the use of any of the variety of sedation techniques.
Your option of sedation ranges from Inhalation sedation, Oral Sedation or Intravenous (IV) sedation, all of which are safe options. Depending on the amount of sedative you receive, you will feel extremely relaxed, drowsy and you may even fall asleep completely.Depending on the amount of sedative you receive, you will feel extremely relaxed, drowsy, or you may fall asleep completely.
Inhalations sedations is also known as laughing gas or nitrous oxide (N20), with this technique an apparatus is placed over your nose which delivers compressed gas, all you have to do is breath normally and enjoy a pleasurable feeling. The debt of sedation can be altered and gas can be given for the exact time span needed unlike oral or Intravenous sedation. Also there are no aftereffects or loss of time since the gas is eliminated from the body within minutes of ceasing the gas supply. Thus, you can safely drive yourself home.
With oral sedation, an anti-anxiety pill is prescribed. The most commonly prescribe drugs belong to the 'Benzodiazepines' family. This type of drug given in higher doses acts like a sedative and may prompt sleep, while given in lower doses, they simply reduce anxiety. You should not travel on your own or consume alcohol once you have taken this type of drugs. One difficulty associated with oral sedation is the unpredictable absorption rate of the drug and gender, height and body weight are not good indicator of what the dosage should be. Thus, there is no way to know how well this method will work for you.
Your final option, Intravenous (IV) sedation, this drug is administered into the blood stream through a vain via an indwelling catherter throughout the procedure. As with oral sedation 'benzodiazepines' is the drug that will be administer, however, sedation is rapid and drug dosage and level of sedation can be tailored to meet your need. Also the maximum level of sedation can be reached with the Intravenous method. As with oral sedation alcohol and traveling alone is not recommended.
Now that you know there is a way to overcome your dental phobia with sedation dentist, we hope it is not going to be long before you make that trip to the dentist.
