Have you ever been in a situation whereby you are supposed to create another piece of classy jewelry and you all you could think of are absolutely nothing? There you are on your desk, equipped with pen a paper, a myriad of jewelry images and you hit with zero inspiration. Don’t worry too much. It happens to the best of artisan. To a writer this is called a writers block. To a jewelry maker like you, this could be call as an idea block. So, how to get all those jewelry making ideas back on track?
You might have made hundreds of jewelry before and you really hate to make the same one. Your idea of a perfect jewelry is one that is handmade and no two designs are the same. This will definitely be bad for your creative mind as you search for different designs. However, there is a method that can solve this jewelry making ideas problem. And it starts with your previous works.
Put two necklaces and what do you see. You are definitely seeing two necklaces but if you are thinking of combo than you are looking at one piece of jewelry. The first necklace might be of a simple weave and the other one more complicated. If you think of combination then your mind would go into rethinking of new weaving method.
So start drawing a design that combines these methods. The top part might consist of a few beads woven and strap to together and the lower you can add a single string with a beautiful large bead as the pendant. Or you can create layers of beads with myriads of colors. Each layers using different looping and weaving techniques. So even with the same precious stones you are able to create something that is entirely different.
Another thing you should consider is learning other ways that are usually not considered as a jewelry making techniques; for instance, knitting. Why not try out some knitting methods and combined it in your jewelry line. Imagine a hand gloves made from pearls or a beanie hat decorated with semi precious stones. Jewelry should not be confined to necklace, bracelets or earrings. It should be more than that. A piece of jewelry could be a headband or a hair clip. A necktie clip is also a piece of jewelry. So are cufflinks and brooches.
Maybe you could create something that is both stylish and versatile. A necklace with a good clasp and the right length can be used as a bracelet. Two beautiful teardrop clip-on earrings can be used as a pendant.
So when you are out of ideas ditch the usual photos or images and try asking yourself what if you make something totally different. The new creation might be the next best thing in your jewelry line.
